"The single greatest edge an investor can have is a long-term orientation." – Seth Klarman

Hi — DripToFreedom isn't a company or a team. It's just me: one person who came to the realization that, as I get older, my retirement plan was — well — garbage. So I dove into dividend investing and DRIP compounding, building a supplement to OAS and CPP for when we get there. All of this is focused on the kind of monthly-income-focused funds that are popular in Canada but don't get much attention from the bigger, mostly US-centric calculator sites out there.

Why this exists

Most free dividend calculators online assume a single US stock, a lump sum, and standard quarterly payouts. That doesn't match how a lot of Canadian investors actually build income — through monthly and semi-monthly payers, often covered-call ETFs, often inside a TFSA, often built up a little at a time rather than all at once. I wanted a tool that matched that reality, was genuinely free to use, and didn't talk down to anyone who's just starting out.

What's here

Three calculators, live right now, built on the same underlying math:

Plus a glossary, a TFSA explainer, a plain-language walkthrough of how DRIP investing actually works, and a deeper look at how covered-call ETFs generate their payouts — all written so someone with zero investing background can use this site and actually understand what the numbers mean, not just stare at a chart. There's more planned, so expect this list to keep growing.

How accurate is it?

The compounding math itself is solid — it's been checked against a private tool I built years ago that does the same calculations for real accounts, and the core formula matches exactly. What's not live is the fund picker's payout rates — those are periodically-updated estimates I maintain by hand, not a real-time market feed. The tool is always upfront about that, and you can always type in your own numbers instead.

How this stays free

No paywall, nothing to buy. The calculators work anonymously, no account needed — or you can create a free account to save your settings, funds, and projections across visits and compare them side by side. Either way is entirely optional. The site is supported by ads and a couple of referral links (Wealthsimple, Blossom) — if you sign up through one of those links, I get a small bonus at no extra cost to you, and it helps keep the lights on. There's also an optional Buy Me a Coffee link if the site's been useful and you'd like to say thanks. None of it is required to use any part of the site.

One more thing

I'm not a licensed financial advisor — I'm just another Canadian looking to better my own life, and the lives of those around me, with what little I know. Nothing on this site is personalized advice — it's general information and a tool to help you think through the math. See the privacy policy for how the site handles data, or the contact page if you want to reach me directly.
